Our Proud History
Us Air Compressors was Founded in 1950 by Gilmer Gilbertson, under the name Modern Equipment Company. Gilmer, originally from Rushford, Minnesota, was the son of Norwegian immigrants.
1950 - The Beginning in Minneapolis
Gilmer (our founder) focused on selling gasoline pumps to small, family-owned gas stations and represented LeRoi compressors. He later expanded the business by adding the Louisville Ladder line, which he sold to major clients such as Target Corporation
1960 - Expansion and Diversification
Gilmer expanded the business by adding Louisville Ladders, selling them to large clients like Target Corporation. His entrepreneurial vision laid the foundation for future growth
1970 – A New Era
After Gilmer’s passing, his son Glen Gilbertson, a Navy pilot, took over the business. He rebranded the company as US Air Compressor and steered it into manufacturing its own line of piston compressors
1990 – Rotary Screw Compressors
Under Glen’s leadership, US Air Compressor launched its first line of rotary screw air compressors, marking a significant milestone in its product line expansion
2000 – Technological Advancements
Steve Gilbertson, Glen's son, brought innovation to the forefront by introducing energy-efficient, variable-speed compressors with frequency inverters. This period also saw the development of high-powered, single-stage compressors capable of up to 100 horsepower
2010 – Leading in Energy Efficiency
US Air Compressor launched two-stage rotary screw compressors that were 20% more energy-efficient than traditional single-stage models, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability
2015 – Industry-Revolutionizing Warranty
US Air Compressor became the first and only company to offer a 10-year exchange warranty at no extra cost for their compressors, with no service contract required. This unprecedented warranty gives customers predictable costs for the entire 10 years of operation, with minimized downtime. This game-changing offer set a new standard in the industry and gave clients unparalleled peace of mind
2020 – “All-in-One” Compressors
US Air Compressor unveiled its "all-in-one" compressor unit, combining a screw compressor, dryer, and tank into a single, convenient package. This innovation revolutionized efficiency and space-saving in the compressed air industry
2022 – Two-Stage High-Efficiency Compressors
US Air Compressor once again led the way by launching a two-stage high-efficiency compressor line. These compressors offer up to 20% energy savings for screw compressors, making them some of the most efficient options in the industry and cementing US Air Compressor’s role as a leader in energy-efficient solutions
2023 – Expansion into the Oil and Gas Industry
US Air Compressor expanded its product offerings to serve the oil and gas industry. The company began producing specialized products, including Vapor Recovery units, in partnership with industry leaders in the USA and Canada. This strategic move further solidified US Air Compressor’s position as a versatile, innovative player in the compressed air market
Today
US Air Compressor received a state-of-the-art screw rotor profile production facility, enabling the company to produce its own airends in-house for a variety of applications. This makes US Air Compressor the only company in Canada and one of the very few in the USA capable of designing and manufacturing custom airends with their own rotor profiles. This new capability elevates the company’s technical expertise and strengthens its competitive edge in the industry
